I've lived in Medellín for many years, 6 months out of the year, since 2014. I absolutely love the city. I love the weather. I love the true Paisa traditional culture & food, not the stupid reggaeton bullshit.
Although now say it's quite sad and disheartening for me, to see post-pandemic, the surge of popularity, particularly among sex tourists that are there for a week of doing drugs, partying, paying for sex, and shit like that. Due to that type of gringo tourist being so prevalent now, Colombians in Medellín are rightfully assuming when they see a gringo that they're probably here for bad reasons. Now it feels like as a gringo in Medellin you are assumed guilty of sex tourism by default. I'm just there to go to coffee shops, the gym, and daygame to meet normal women.. so for me, this new sort of judgment is something that I've never experienced in Medellín before, and it's disheartening. So I'm more interested now in other cities in Colombia where there's no stigma to being a gringo. The catch-22 is that most smaller cities in Colombia are a BIG drop in quality of life and amenities compared to Medellin (which is now really very modern with tons of great cafes and restaurants).

Pros: High frequency of beautiful women who are receptive to approaches · Perfect sunny weather all year · Low cost of living for all that Medellín offers (modern amenities + great dating scene)
Cons: Very High risk of getting drugged & robbed if meeting women on dating apps + drinking alcohol · Too many (bad) gringos - post-pandemic MDE skyrocketed in popularity among digital nomads and unfortunately sex tourists that make all gringos look bad · Less safe in general than most LATAM cities (but overall very manageable if you are not doing stupid things or looking for trouble)
